As was trumpeted from on high on Saturday, Lucifer is ice skating and Wilbur has taken flight. I have a new car. It’s a 2017 BWM X5 XDrive35i. What has happened to car names? Damn. Anyway! It’s a metallic brown with a brown interior which is probably why it languished on the dealer lot for months but was a big plus for me. I would have rather had one of the nice blues that BMW has but finding one in the right price range was tough. This one was CPO, right at 30k miles and had a motivated seller. Perfect! Here are a couple of pics I took from their website before they disappeared. In them the car looks black, but in person it is indeed brown. T he interior also looks lighter than it is in person. It’s not the fanciest or best car in the world but compared to a 2006 Mercury Mariner it might as well be. BTW, that is going to one of my sisters as a winter car.

That’s a hell of an upgrade over a Mariner

I like it very much!

It really, truly is. After buying this and driving it I had to get in the Mariner to move it out of the garage and it was like “How the hell did I sit in this seat?”.

Thanks! I do too!

The biggest upgrade I ever had was from my 1986 D100 as my DD to a 2006 Mazda 6 GT.

That’s a damn big jump too. It’s a little disorienting, isn’t it? But oh so nice.

*laughs in Galaxie 500 4-door Sedan*

That’s a great color combo. X5 is a dang fine SUV, enjoy it.

Thats still quite an up grade. And I know how flimsy the interior of those Mazdas are

“Galaxie”>>>” X5"

Thanks! I am enjoying it a LOT.

Could BMW X SUVs be the next Oppo car of the year?

Maybe, but it would be hard to knock the Miata off from its throne.

Congrats! Super nice car!

Within a few years prior, the Galaxie had been a Fairlane Galaxie which had been the Fairlane Victoria (?) which had been the Crestline Victoria(?)
, but what had been the Fairlane Galaxie became
the Galaxie 500 (more or less), the top trim went to Galaxie 500XL, the lower Galaxie came in, and the base trim became the Custom 300... because reasons, while the Fairlane became another car entirely
. Which had a Fairlane 500, because of course it did.
This was on the cusp of changes from trim levels being applied to multiple model configurations as a name to model names being applied to specific bodystyles which then have trim levels, so it all gets a little baffling... Add in that only *most* of the special submodel indicators had been tossed out (Sunliner, Starliner) and others were still lurking (Victoria) and a new one was coming in (Fastback).
Great names, total nonsense in designation.

The first car I really remember my parents having was a ‘57 Fairlane. Great looking car even if it was a 4-door. But, even with that I never really understood all of the model designations Ford used back then but the names had style!

It’d be easier than you think, they’re pretty small and light.
I’ll show myself out...

Ok, I literally laughed out loud at that one. Luckily I’m the only one working from the office today so nobody knows I’m goofing off on the internet.
